Radio Caracas

4D Image in Hospitals?

A canadian enterprise has developed for six years a new kind of medical scan, which is in fact a 3D volumetric image of a human body, which can be seen form any angle and can be tear in layers in order to see all the organs, muscles, bones, etc. of the body. To begin with, this ain't (it can't be) a 4D image, for our senses can't persive more than three, but this "smart ass" developers say it is 4D because of it's ability to show you different "times" in the model. This means, you can see what you looked like two weeks ago and how you look now... shitty isn't it... but any way... the main point of this model, is that looking it through some special 3D lenses, you can actually persive the depth of it, as if it where standing right in front of you. Something like Final Fantasy: Spirit Within machine that is used to locate alien live within the body of the characters... which is really close.

The system is great, it allows medical staff to practice before an operation, or to layer out parts of the brain to study it without having to wait for a corpse to arrive.
The only bad thing is the name... beyond that, I think is a great breakthrough invention, which in time surely will be available in every hospital (right now, there's only one). See the note here

Water on Mars

It's quite public now that there was fluid water on planet Mars. But now, by accident (as most scientific discoveries occour...) the Rover Spirit (whose mission ended up about 3 years ago, but is still going) having a malfuntion on one of her wheels, dragged some dirt and discovered an under layer of dirt which after x-ray analize, turned out to be Silica, a chemical component that gives shape to our Quartz and to our mirrors, and that needs water for it's formation.

The New Jocker

Well, Batman Begins is the greatest Batman movie ever... realistic, cinematographic, conceptual and agressive. Now that the sequel it's on it's way -The Dark Knight- the publicity and promotion for the film has been exceptional, plus very early.

To begin with, the "I believe in Harvey Dent" campaign was lauched a few weeks ago via web site, where you could access the "Dent's campign site" and see Aaron Eackheart as Dent.
Then, in several US comic stores, a "marketing guerilla" introduced some jocker cards with "I believe in Harvey Dent too" as if the Jocker would've written it.

At the time the cards appeared, the website changed as if the jocker would've hacked it and drawn over Dent's face. Just a few days later, you only needed to give your e-mail and a security check and you would recieve coordinates of pixels, that once entried would start peeling pixels off the image to reveal the first look of Heather Ledger as the Jocker.
A really new Jocker. Disfigured, and poorly painted... as he would be.
An excellent campaing.

Presentando: Cha Cha Cha

A HUEEEEEEEE...... !!!

Visual Effects Reel

Just a simple reel... but it really looks great

Inbanana Jones

hahaha... oh shit....

New facial animation technic

This enterprise in England (I believe) has created a new system in which pointed motion capture is in the past. Now, all it takes is to act infront of a camera and the software translates the movement of eyelids, muscles, mouth and lips and even the tongue. No need to sign with luminous points anymore.
This is really cool, for it will change radically the way we animate...

Saturday Afternoon Fever

I know the title is a bit chessy... but the animation in this shortfilm is really good... and the message is something to be taken in consideration in a few years...

Mousetrap

Here's a great and really short film that Sadot has just linked me. It quite funny and it has a great ending.

Ice's Melting

As a direct effect of global warming, the Antartica is staring to have in land melting, which is really something to be worried about. As we all know, coasts are in fact the smallest portion on a land... the bigger concentration of mase is in land. As the Ice in Antartica melts, the water flows towards the ocean where it merges with salted water... which means we could very well be wating our last resource for drinkable water.
I post this satellite picture so you may see the scale of this... we're talking that tha Antartica mase of earth is simillar to South America... the inland hot spot is the size of California... a whole city of water has ran from us.

Jack El Destripador

Fotos, arte, audiovisuales... y muuuy pocos comentarios.

Spiderman 3

I just got home from watching this movie, and after years of waiting and expectation (specially for the character involved in this one) I must say: SHIT!!!!
I really tried to see the movie from all my possible angles: As a film maker, as a film critic, as an VFX lover, as fan, as regular audience... and none worked.
The main problem of it is that it is a forced film... the third part of a sucessful franchise that needed to close the trilogy to leave free pass to the uncoming superhero films.

Now, I find that this movie an X3 sort of have the same feelling... kindda epic but reduced to some semi-significant scenarios and characters. For example: Peter Parker and Mary Jane Watson's private life first is introduced to the film as a main line, just to get cut by too much not so significant acts that just make the movie change wilderly from tempo... in other words, the relations have too many up and downs.

As for the VFX, well, they really are great... specially the symbion and the sand (they really worked out the particles in both). But they were so refined that it turned annoying, specially since Spiderman wears the mask only one third of the film... the rest in Toby McGuire in silks... or Peter Parker fighting a "Gobblin JR"... wich is hard to acomplish in 3D because of the cloths he was wearing.
As for to Venom... shit... I so waited to see him on screen... but at the end he turned out to be nothing special. As a matter of fact (and I must cry while writting this) he's the worst of the movie.

Clichefull (nice word), predictable, extremely light...

This film should've been a complete drama. Peter Parker fighting his darkside and all the damage he could've made if only he'd let go... instead, we have a ridiculous Toby dancing like a Hip Hop whore downtown NYC.

A shame this ended up like this...
